Morning Gut Health Elixir for Better Digestion

Updated: Jan 17, 2022

Do you struggle with frequent indigestion, acid reflux/heartburn, constipation, or bloating? These symptoms are your body's way of telling you that you need to work on optimizing digestion.

Common culprits of poor digestion are stress, diets high in carbs and sugar, processed foods, nutrient deficiencies, food allergies, excess alcohol consumption, lack of movement, and overuse of medications such as antibiotics, pain relievers, acid blocking drugs, and steroids.

With poor digestion, you're unable to breakdown food properly causing undigested food to sit in the stomach much longer, allowing it to ferment, putrefy, and turn rancid. This leads to the uncomfortable symptoms you experience! Overtime, it also allows bad bacteria to flourish and wreak havoc on the gut causing other symptoms like acne, food allergies, inflammation, brain fog, anxiety, low immunity and more.

Optimizing digestion is SUPER important for keeping your body healthy and feeling its best.

One of my favorite ways to support good digestion is by starting the day with my Morning Gut Health Elixir.

This recipe contains ingredients known for stimulating your 'digestive juices' also known as hydrochloric acid which helps you breakdown food thoroughly. The best time to drink this is upon waking on an empty stomach.

Lemon - promotes healthy stomach acid levels to breakdown food more efficiently making it easier for your body to absorb nutrients and eliminate waste.

Ginger - warmth from this spice stimulates digestion and relieves bloating, gas, constipation, & stomach pain.

Cinnamon - contains anti-inflammatory and prebiotic properties to help fight off bad bacteria while supporting growth of beneficial bacteria to keep your gut healthy.

Cayenne - increases the flow of enzyme production and gastric juices necessary for good digestion.

L-Glutamine - promotes healing of the intestinal lining to seal up a "leaky gut" which allows pathogens to escape from your intestines into the bloodstream causing immune problems, inflammation, food allergies, autoimmune conditions, and more.

Prebiotic Fiber - gently supports digestion and bowel regularity by helping to eliminate waste.

RECIPE:

Ingredients:

  • 16-20oz filtered water, warmed

  • Juice from 1/4-1/2 a lemon

  • Ground ginger

  • Ground cinnamon

  • Cayenne

  • L-Glutamine Powder (here is what I use: https://essentialstacks.com/products/gut-l-glutamine/)

  • Prebiotic Powder (here is what I use: https://essentialstacks.com/products/friendly-prebiotics/)

Instructions:

  1. Heat water so it's warm (not hot).

  2. Squeeze lemon juice into the mug.

  3. Add a couple dashes of ground ginger and cinnamon.

  4. Add a small dash of cayenne (don't want to use too much or it'll be too hot!).

  5. Add a scoop of l-glutamine powder.

  6. Add a scoop of prebiotic powder.

  7. Stir well until all is dissolved and enjoy!
